Spicy Tomato Spaghetti

Ingredients
- 12 ounces (340g) spaghetti
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces/800g) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon Kadija Dine spice (adjust to taste)
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving (optional)
Methods
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.
- Drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Allow the sauce to simmer over low to medium heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help the flavors meld and the sauce to thicken.
- During the simmering process, taste the sauce and adjust the level of spiciness by adding more red pepper flakes if desired. Remember that the heat will develop as the sauce cooks, so be cautious not to make it too spicy.
- Once the sauce has thickened to your liking, remove it from the heat.
- Serve the cooked spaghetti on plates and spoon the spicy red sauce over the top.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
- Serve your delicious and spicy red sauce spaghetti immediately. You can also accompany it with garlic bread or a side salad for a complete meal.
